Total Solar Eclipse Festival of Tribal and Cosmic Arts



Honu Eclipse Festival will happen from the 7th to the 13th of July, 2010.



The Honu (turtle) is the symbol for the darkness and solar eclipses in Rapa Nui folklore and ancient writings. They are included in Rongorongo (the sacred tablets and writing of the early inhabitants of the island) and are thought to have predicted the occurance of Solar Eclipses on the island.

The Honu is also represents the Pleiades, the seven stars.. and apart from being another peaceful habitant of Earth, is also sacred amongst many other culture including the Maya.



The main musical and artistic activities of the festival will operate from July 7-13. With the main focus around the eclipse on july 10-11. There will be a complete break from the music during the eclipse. This will give you all the opportunity to experience the moment in your own peace and tranquility. It is also possible that you will choose a different location on the island to enjoy the experience.

The campsite will be operable from Saturday 3rd July until Sunday 18th July.
